Guru purnima is a celebration of the old Vedic culture, a thank-you for the Teacher day.
Guru Purnima (purnima in sanskrit means full moon) is celebrated on a full moon, and this one is the most important in the year; it’s the day, when the completely full moon symbolises a heart full of love and gratitude.
On this day, all disciples, irrespective of where they are, what they do or to which side of the world their life has taken them, all of them join in communal thanksgiving pray. Thanking the Teacher for the love and care, for patience and understanding, for unceasing support in such a difficult path to self-knowledge, to knowledge of the most secret part of our souls – God.
On that day one of the most beautiful prayer is chanted:
TAMSOMA JYOTIRGAMAYA
ASATOMA SATGAMAYA
MRITIORMA AMRITGAMAYA
“Teacher, guide us from darkness towards Light, from ignorance to Knowledge, from death to Immortality!”
