One disciple said to his spiritual Master, “I wish to be worshiped as this sculpture is.”

The Master answered, “Approach the sculpture and scold it as much as you can.”

The disciple did so. But when he returned to the Master, he asked him, “How did the sculpture respond?”

“It did not react.”

“Now go and worship to it.”

Again the disciple did as told by his Master.

“And how does the sculpture behave now?”

“The same. It does not react in any way.”

“When you find the same inner peace, which can not be destroyed by anything (neither slander nor praise), then you will be worshiped too.”
